Summer is over, and we’re back to the States! Or should I say back home? Well, that’s interesting, since I feel like I just left my home in Italy, so I guess you can feel at home in different places. Even the expression “Avere nostalgia di casa”, to be homesick, has a whole new meaning if “home” can be in two different continents. Che riflessioni noiose! Such boring thoughts! Well, I’m so jet-lagged everything makes me yawn today, including my Pillola d’italiano! Do you know how to say to be jet-lagged in Italian? Avere il fuso sballato.
Truth is I’ve been unpacking for one full day, and after three laundries the house is still a mess; while cleaning up I found the chocolate bars my friend Elena gave me the night before our departure and, although it’s super humid and hot today – not the ideal weather to indulge in chocolate – I must admit I’m tempted. Have a look. Wouldn’t you be temped too??
You should know this is not a regular chocolate bar, it’s a special kind they only make in Modica, next to Ragusa here (I mean there) in Sicily. La particolarità? What’s peculiar about it? This chocolate is produced with a special technique “a freddo” (at a cold temperature) and is purposely less refined, so that the sugar doesn’t melt and you can feel and taste the sugar crystals while eating it.
What can I say? Che dire? Buonissima! Now I promise, vi prometto, I will not keep the whole 5 (cinque!) bars for myself. In fact, I’m going to share them with my nice neighbors, so I’ll introduce them to some Sicilian specialties and maybe next year they’ll want to go visit Sicily to try more!
